Baby’s Favorite Reads

Happy Saturday!  I hope everyone’s day has been great and productive so far.  🙂  If you guys didn’t know, Naila loves books.  Which is great because the importance of reading to young children cannot be emphasised enough and we as parents need to make reading a priority.

Today I will be sharing some of Naila’s favorite books.

  1. The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a picture book written and illustrated by Eric Carle. It follows the life cycle of a caterpillar as it starts by coming out of its egg, all the way to becoming a butterfly.  It teaches the days of the week and counting up to five.  Most of Naila’s books are bilingual.

2. Goodnight Moon

Goodnight Moon was written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd.  It is a classic children’s bedtime story written about a rabbit’s routine before he goes to bed.  Before his bedtime, the rabbit goes around the room and notices items within eyesight and says goodnight to all of them.  As the story continues, the rabbit gets more and more tired before finally saying “Goodnight noises everywhere,” just as he falls asleep.

3. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

This book has a very entertaining and interactive story line about the alphabet.  It begins with the beginning of the alphabet climbing to the top of the coconut tree.  The remaining letters follow action with a rhyming tune to follow.  The letters are having a great time until the tree becomes too full and “Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom!”

4. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

The repetitive structure makes it a perfect read-aloud with very young children.  This book is beloved for its brightly colored art by Eric Carle and simple, rhyming text by Bill Martin Jr.  The lines are easy to memorize, encouraging even toddlers to “read” along.  Pre-readers can practice identifying color and animal words.
